| Christmas Race, Party and Annual Awards 2013
Once again it was a very closely contested teams race – with first and 7th times only separated by 1 minute and 28 seconds.Despite the many changes to the team selection process the actual outcome and times have not varied much over the years (though fortunately the winners have begun to vary!) 2013 Winners Sean Williams, Jamin Hall, Anthony Dean and Peter Lott. 2013 Wooden Spoons Mark Ward, James Baldry, Tony Snell and Scott Adams.
‘Race’ Report With the emphasis in the time trial all about the numbers here are some irrelevant numbers from the afternoon and evening!! Two first time participant prizewinners, medal Jamin Hall and spoon Tony Snell! One pair of borrowed wheels? Could Scott McLeod’s wheels – lent to Jamin –have made the 3 second diference?? Scott thinks so – he’s already taken them back!! One pair of lungs (one of which was working!) – Tim Meares – a herculean effort for 3rd. One pair of crotch-less denim shorts – sorry Jarv but you could get back-to-back awards if you actually wear them riding! One keg of Coopers, one keg less than was needed! One too many Coopers, a fair few victims of this! One last bourbon that brought you unstuck – Al Baker! Two Dry Vomits – Both from the winning team! (Are these the sacrifices needed to be made for victory?!) Three first time winners – Peter Lott, Jamin and Sean Williams Another Back-to-back winner? Anthony Dean (to join Dave Jarvis and Penny Nott over the past 4 years) In all it was a great afternoon and evening and a fitting end to the year. As always the hard-luck stories and what-ifs were debated over all night to everyone’s amusement. Maybe the biggest what-if was, “What if the Christmas race could be run once a month?” (or at least the gathering afterward!!) ANNUAL AWARDS Best Dressed – Steve Franklin (aka Frank Stephens) for on-the-bike attire and Tim Meares (post-ride attire)! Worst Dressed – David Jarvis (for racing in dress shorts at Uranquinty!) Half-wheel – Hamish Nott ( won by half-a-wheel over Phil Davies!) Hair Removal Award – Mark Ward and Jamin Hall ( these guys took things to a new level with their WIVES waxing their legs!!)
